UAE GAS MEGA PLANT SLASHED BY IRAN STRIKES, FULL RECOVERY NOT EXPECTED UNTIL 2027 A major UAE gas facility will not return to full capacity until 2027 after Iranian strikes damaged production, according to operator ADNOC Gas. The Habshan plant in Abu Dhabiโ€”one of the worldโ€™s largest gas processing sitesโ€”is currently running at about 60% capacity and aims for 80% restoration by end-2026. Full recovery is expected in 2027 after attacks in April triggered fires and disrupted operations. The strikes are part of broader regional escalation that has also hit Gulf shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, driving energy market instability and higher prices.

Goldman Sachs sees broad dollar strength as energy shock keeps yields elevated

Goldman Sachs predicts that the ongoing energy price shock will maintain elevated US yields and strengthen the US dollar against G10 currencies, particularly recommending selling positions against the Swedish krona, euro, and British pound. The US benefits from its status as the largest oil producer, providing insulation from the energy shock, while yen weakness is expected to persist due to a lack of macroeconomic policy shifts in Japan.

Industry leaders say the knock-on effects are beginning to delay developments and inflate project budgets. Given that construction represents a major share of the global economy, the disruption to energy supplies from the Middle East is creating growing concern across the sector.

Furthermore, supply disruptions at the world's 2nd-largest copper mine in Indonesia are adding to the pressure. Meanwhile, China's exports jumped +14% YoY in April, led by booming clean-tech shipments, components that are materially copper-intensive, tightening the market even further. The global economy is scrambling for copper.
